A day of pigs, sugar, and rain (and more coffee...always coffee!)

Today we went to a different farm to do our data collection.  This one was further away and we had to go over some mountains to get there.  We stopped on the way to check out the amazing views which stretched all the way to the Pacific!

Once we got to the farm we got right to work.  It's awesome how much faster and better we are at counting beans and measuring plants after only two days on the job!

On our midmorning break we explored the farm.  We checked out the pigpen and baby pigs, which was fun but incredibly stinky.

Before we left the farmer's wife also showed us where they process sugarcane plants into raw sugar with a huge outdoor press.  She gave us some massive sugar lumps to take with us.

It's pouring now.  It rains a lot here, mostly in the afternoon.  Today it started pouring about five minutes after we finished our field work, so the ride back from the farm on those curvy narrow mountain roads was pretty scary, especially since Sebastian couldn't get the window defroster working on the driver's side!  He was looking through the passenger side the whole way back.  I was a little nervous!

That's it for today.  Hasta manana mi amigos!

  1. I'm so glad you made it back safely! Narrow mountain, curvy road, poor visibility ... sounds almost as bad as Rte 93 at rush hour.
