What's for dinner, and will I live long enough to find out?

Before I start, I have to say that I cannot believe we only have 2 days left in the field here.  I am actually really enjoying being a part of this research (aside from some slightly mind numbing data entry in the lab.)

Today I partnered up again with Dr. C, which was great because, as usual, we make a terrific team.  On break, we checked out a few pigs and their adorable piglets, which seemed seriously miserable, and made me rethink eating meat again (we have also seen a lot of super cute cows.)  I think chicken and fish will have to suffice.  Ironically, the chicken I thought I ate at lunch turned out to be pork anyway.

So me and Dr. C are really quick at gathering data, not too important, until you see that as soon as we were done, the sky opened up and poured rain down on the Costa Rican mountains.  The rain doesn't bother me however.  What does bother me is driving narrow, steep, winding roads in a torrential downpour when the defrost isn't working (see previous picture) and even the driver admits he can't see!  I do not know how I maintained my composure, but I did...I really basically did!  By the way, I am  not being a paranoid car-a-phobe, one of the women in our group got car sick from the drive.  I impressed myself and survived.

As I type, we are getting ready for dinner...have I mentioned the menu here?  It is starch, starch and a side of, you guessed it, starch!  I am full all the time.  Tomorrow is supposed to be pizza night, a meal everyone in the group has been eagerly awaiting since we got here, but I am making it super salad night.  I think Dr. C is looking forward to super salad night too.

All is well though.  For inquiring minds: Dr. C and I are getting along quite well in fact and have gotten to know each other better and luckily, living together in complete harmony.  I know there are many parties following this blog that wondered about the dynamic between two quirky science teachers with their own habits cohabitating...secrets out...we are fine!  For those of you who haven't met Dr. C (Kristen) you will soon.  For those of you on her side who don't know me, I look forward to meeting you!

  2. Miss OB: I concur with your thoughts about living with Dr. C. She's a heckuva lady and companion. (Little secret, though: If you complain boisterously enough like I do, she'll eventually break down and let you have total control of the remote. Give it a try.)
